How to Become a Cloud Engineer

Re: Cloud Engineer Portfolio How to Guide

Hi Faizol,
That's a great question; here is step-by-step guidance to help you along the journey.

1. Choose one of the cloud providers to learn and stick to it for a while:
You can choose to go with GCP, AWS, Azur, Alicloud, or any other cloud provider. It doesn't matter which cloud provider you pick at first, as you want to learn the concept of cloud computing.
Just keep in mind that AWS, GCP, and Azur are the most popular cloud providers now.

2. Cloud Certification:
All cloud providers have different types of certifications.
Let's say you decided to learn GCP(Google Cloud Platform).
GCP has multiple certifications, as you can see in the picture below.
You can start with Cloud Digital Leader to gain knowledge of cloud concepts and the products, services, tools, features, benefits, and use cases of Google Cloud.

And after that, you can start with a Cloud Engineer Associate to assess the fundamental skills to deploy and maintain cloud projects.

The goal of getting these certificates is to make your learning process clear and organized instead of randomly learning. Plus, these certificates will help you get interviews faster, especially if you are not from an IT background.

3. Work on projects:
After gaining the knowledge and skills, you can apply them to independent projects. This helps build your cloud portfolio.

4. Search for someone to monitor you.

5. Networking:
Start attending tech meetups to build your network, get feedback from the community, get job referrals, and maybe search for someone to monitor you.

6. Apply for an internship or entry-level job.
After you have covered all the above, start applying for internships and entry-level jobs.

You can check our official GCP courses too, as AirAsia Academy is an authorized training partner.
All our courses feature a combination of lectures, design activities, and hands-on labs to show you how to use proven design patterns on Google Cloud to build highly reliable and efficient solutions and operate deployments that are highly available and cost-effective.

Cheers,
Mouhannad
